Electrolysis
Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal available at Age-Less Laser and Skin Rejuvenation Clinic. It was developed in 1875 and now has become a practical and affordable option for individuals seeking a solution to the problem of unwanted hair. For years it has been the safest and an effective method to remove hair of all colors from all skin types.
How does electrolysis work?
A fine, sterile needle is inserted into the follicle along side the hair to reach the base of the hair root. The needle or filament is thinner than the hair and because the follicle is an existing opening, it does not puncture or break the skin. A mild electrical impulse is delivered through the filament which destroys the hair root when the hair is in the correct cycle. Hair follows a cyclical growing pattern moving from an active, visible stage, to an inactive, dormant period where it rests below the skin's surface. At any given time about 30 % of all hairs will be not be visible because they are in the dormant stage. This means that they cannot be treated until they reach the surface of the skin and can be visually identified by the technician.
How effective is the treatment?
The treatment is very effective because once the germ cells have been destroyed through electrolysis, it is impossible for the hair to regrow. Factors that determine the number of treatment with electrolysis that are required to eliminate the hair include how coarseness of the hair, skin type, the size of the treated area, the curvature of the follicle and how dense the hairs are. However, the hair regrowth is usually, finer, lighter in color and will be quicker and easier to destroy with electrolysis. As well, the tolerance, previous hair removal methods and consistency of treatments are also factors that will determine how effective the treatments are.
Is electrolysis painful?
A topical anesthetic is usually used to minimize any discomfort that the client might feel in particularly sensitive areas. Most people who undergo electrolysis describe feeling a slight heat, tingling or stinging sensation depending on the area being treated and the sensitivity of the client.
Is there any after care needed?
There may be some slight reddening or swelling in the effected areas which goes away in a few hours after the treatment was completed. Avoid any sun tanning or strong sunlight on the effected area for 48 hours.
