What is Laser Resurfacing? The Sciton Contour Erbium Laser allows your doctor to remove thin layers of your skin’s surface in a very precise and effective manner without the risk of hypo pigmentation. What conditions can be treated? Crepey facial wrinkles, smokers lines around the mouth, thin lines around the eyes, acne scarring, rough texture, sun damaged skin, actinic keratosis, acne scars, surgical scars, hypertrophic scars, and epidermal nevi. What does the Contour laser do? Dr. Dupere is able to precisely remove thin layers of your skins surface. Using the Contours dual laser system and scanner, Dr. DuPéré can optimize the depth of the laser to match your skins conditions and tailor the desired results. The layers that are removed will be replaced by new and younger skin growth. The wrinkles will be become soften and less noticeable and some will even disappear. Acne scars will be smoother and the texture of the skin will be improved. Brown spots and sun damage will have virtually disappeared. What area can be treated? Most skin areas can be treated. The most common is the face, neck and chest. How long will it take to recover? Healing time will depend on the actual treatment depth. You may have redness which may result up to several weeks. This can be covered with make-up. What should I expect after treatment? It will take a few days to replace the outer layer of your skin. Swelling and redness is common and may persist for a few days. Is there any discomfort during the treatment? Discomfort varies from patient to patient. Dr. DuPéré will administer anesthesia and will make sure that you are comfortable at all times during the treatment. How long is the treatment? The actual treatment will take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the area. With the administration of the anesthetic and post recovery time, you will be in clinic for approximately 2 ½ hours. What will I need for aftercare? Home care instructions will be given to you by Dr. DuPéré. There will also be some home care products that you will given to use. The top layer of your skin will re-grow and can be covered with make-up within 1 week. Your new skin will be brand new like baby skin, and will be extremely sensitive to UVA and UVB light. Sun exposure must be avoided until fully healed! You will need to cover your skin, wear a hat and use sun screen that has a broad spectrum protection if you go outside.
