Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty by Dr. Marc DuPéré Richmond Hill / York Region / Toronto

For many women the changes that happen to their bodies after having children or large weight gain can be devastating.  The stretched  skin and the lose muscles that doesn’t rebound to its former fit and tight look can affect how a woman feels about her body.  This often can interfere in personal relationships with partners.    A tummy tuck helps women to go back and reclaim their pre-pregnancy bodies!

The tummy tuck or abdominoplasty with liposuction is a procedure that creates a major change in the abdominal area that cannot be done by any other procedure. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty affects all three layers of the stomach area. The tummy tuck tightens the muscles and reshapes the underlying structure of the abdomen. It removes fat and it removes all the excess loose skin. The results of a tummy tuck are a flat tight stomach with a more defined waistline.

Dr. Marc DuPéré, Board Certified Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon, specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery and does not only perform surgery, he sculpts and creates! Having been mentored by the world’s most renowned European aesthetic cosmetic surgeons, Dr. DuPéré has the skill of the great European master artists. This artistic refinement combined with superb surgical techniques enables Dr. DuPéré to design and give his patient a more youthful body with attractive and shapely contours.

Who is a a candidate for a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty with liposuction?
The tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is preformed commonly on both men and women. Men usually choose this surgery after major weight gain during middle age. Women more commonly have a tummy tuck after having babies or major weight loss.

What happens during to stomach muscles and skin tone during pregnancy?
Approximately 30% of women experience muscle separation and stretching during pregnancy that will not return to normal prost-pregnancy. This combined with skin that has been overly stretched and visible stretch marks or possibly a c-section scar that occasionally can mutilate the lower abdomen can affect women’s self esteem. This also can further develop into relationship problems with their partners due to their unhappiness with their post baby bodies.

The Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty Procedure

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck is performed by Dr. Marc DuPéré, Board Certified Cosmetic Plastic surgeon  Age-less in Richmond Hill, Toronto and York Region in a fully accredited cosmetic surgical facility, using a board certified anesthetist and 2 specially trained cosmetic surgical nurses. You will be given medication beforehand so you will feel relaxed. The surgery may take 3 1/2-5 hours, depending on the patient's overall condition.  You will be staying in an overnight private suite with a private nurse.

The tummy tuck procedure is most commonly performed by making a U-shaped incision below one hipbone, across the pubic area and under the other hipbone. This incision is done low enough that the patient is able to wear a bikini. A second incision is made around the navel. The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall and lifted up to the hipbone, exposing loose tissue covering the abdominal muscle.

Loose, stretched out muscles are tightened with sutures, and excess skin and fat are removed. Dr. DuPéré always includes liposuction to contour sides, back and stomach area. The skin is lowered over the abdomen and the navel is reconstructed. The incisions are then sutured together. Drains are inserted to eliminate fluid buildup, and firm surgical compression garment is then worn by the patient. One drain is removed 7 days later and the second 14 days later.

Recovery from the Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty Procedure

You may experience some discomfort immediately following a tummy tuck that can be controlled with pain pills prescribed by Dr. Marc DuPéré in our Age-Less office in Richmond Hill and Toronto. You can expect bruising, swelling and ache that may last for up to a month. You will be given special instructions for showering and changing your dressings until the surface stitches are removed in 7 days. You will be required to wear a surgical compression garment for 6 weeks to help support the muscle tightening.

How you recover depends on your physical condition prior to surgery; but allow at least 4 weeks recuperating before returning to work.

Some scarring is also normal. It will take 9-12 months before the scars begin to fade. Massaging the scar with Vitamin E oil will help it to heal faster. Creams to help lighten scars may be recommended by Dr. Marc DuPéré. These are available at the Age-Less Clinic in Richmond Hill, Toronto and York Region

Though the recovery period is longer than all of other cosmetic procedures, the results are instantaneous for a patient undergoing a tummy tuck. Patients who follow a proper exercise routine and healthy diet will benefit from abdominoplasty the most.
